Only five men in NHL history have scored 50 goals in the first 50 games of a season. Maurice “Rocket” Richard was the first 50-goal scorer in NHL history in the 1944–45 season. Mike Bossy reached the mark in 1980–81, besting Charlie Simmer who finished with 49 goals. “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky became the first to score 60 goals in 50 games in 1981–82, his first of three 50-in-50 seasons. Mario Lemieux scored 54 goals in 50 games in 1988–89 and Brett Hull became the second player to do it twice in 1990–91 and 1991–92.
