Barons of the Ballpark
500 Home Runs & 3000 Hits
More than 23,000 people have played Major League Baseball, going back more than 150 years. In all of that time, only seven players have slugged 500 home runs and collected 3,000 hits in their careers. In May 1970, Hank Aaron became the first to achieve the record and he was joined two months later by Willie Mays. It took a quarter century for them to be joined by switch hitter Eddie Murray in 1996. Rafael Palmeiro (2005), Alex Rodriguez (2015), Albert Pujols (2018) and Miguel Cabrera (2022) added their names more recently.
