Apollo 15 Crew

Apollo 15 became the fourth lunar expedition in 1971, slightly more than two years after Apollo 11 became the first manned mission to reach the moon. Commander David Scott (left) and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin (middle) were the first of NASA’s “J Missions” that allowed them to stay longer on the lunar surface — a total of 18 ½ hours — and drive the first car. These innovations included upgraded spacesuits, communications, vehicles and life support systems. Command Module Pilot Alfred Worden (right) became the first astronaut to carry out a spacewalk in deep space.
