The Goats
Bill Russell & Wilt Chamberlain
The NBA of the 1960s featured two dominant centers — Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. While Chamberlain dominated the league — he won seven scoring titles in 14 seasons, four MVP Awards and once scored 100 points in a single game — his teams struggled against Russell’s Boston Celtics. Russell won 96 of 153 matchups with Chamberlain in regular and postseason play on his way to 11 NBA titles as a player compared to just two for Wilt. The rivalry helped boost the young NBA to national prominence and the two built a genuine friendship that lasted long after their careers ended.
