Cecil Hart

Cecil Hart, raised in an English-speaking area of Quebec, was the son of Montreal physician David Hart, who donated the Hart Trophy for the NHL’s most valuable player in 1923. Cecil became the coach of the Montreal Maroons in 1924, the city’s new anglophone hockey team. After two seasons he moved to the Montreal Canadiens and led them to consecutive Stanley Cup wins in 1930 and 1931. In this note, Hart notified the NHL about a golf tournament. Hart resigned the manager’s position slightly more than a year before his death in 1940. In 1960, the original Hart Trophy was retired and renamed the Hart Memorial Trophy.
