Five American Presidents Photo
Five American presidents — George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon — gathered in November 1991 for the opening of the Reagan Presidential Library. The so-called “Presidents Club” brought former Commanders in Chief together, regardless of party politics, to advance important issues. One example was the friendship between Jimmy Carter and the man he defeated in 1976, Gerald Ford. After leaving office the pair monitored international elections and promoted human rights around the world. Oddly it took an intervention from Richard Nixon on an airplane to get the two introverts to break the ice.
