U.S. Presidents & First Ladies
Jacqueline Kennedy
Born in 1929, Jacqueline Bouvier, a newspaper photographer, met Representative John F. Kennedy at a party in Washington, D.C. in 1952. The couple were married in 1953 and JFK soon noted that his campaign crowds were twice as large when “Jackie” was around. As First Lady (1961-1963) she championed the arts and oversaw extensive renovations of the White House, a video tour of which won her an Emmy Award. When JFK was assassinated in 1963, she defined grace and dignity in unimaginable circumstances. She passed in 1994 after a second marriage to Aristotle Onassis and a second career in book editing.
