Dear Mr. Ward Thomas,

I agree with your view that it is years since I have had the pleasure of meeting you at Fulwell and that pleasure is being enhanced by the possibility that we may meet again on February 9th as you suggest.

I may add that should I live until March 19th next, I shall reach the venerable age of 90 and I shall do my level best to reach if all being well and I have not the highest objection to have my picture taken.

I hear from Mr. Darwin occasionally and regret to know that he cannot move about much these days.

I am happy to say that I keep as well as the years allow and hope to be allowed to keep going a little while longer.

It seems to be a very long way that you need to travel for the interview but as it is your own suggestion, who I am to object.

Looking forward with pleasure to seeing you again on February 9th. I remain.

Sincerely yours,

J.H. Taylor

Dear Mr. Hamilton,

I am impelled to write thanking you for the Strathaven Toffee that reached me safely this morning. You most certainly anticipated my taste for I am very fond indeed of “Sweeties” as you Scots would say so much so that when I played in Championship Golf I always carried a few lumps of sugar in “ma pooch” as I found it most stimulating when my nerves were on the stretch. I assure you I will do full justice to this particular delicacy. With renewed thanks for your kindness and reciprocating your wish for my health and happiness.

Sincerely yours,

J.H. Taylor
