John Wooden
John Wooden, nicknamed “The Wizard of Westwood,” was an iconic American basketball coach, best known for leading the UCLA men's basketball team to unprecedented success. Born in 1910, Wooden won ten NCAA national championships, including seven consecutive titles, and developed the “Pyramid of Success” philosophy emphasizing character, teamwork, and discipline. Renowned as a teacher and mentor, his influence extended beyond basketball, shaping generations of athletes and coaches and leaving an enduring legacy in sports and leadership. Wooden was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player (1960) and as a coach (1973), the first person to be enshrined in both categories.

Seven time basketball college coach of the year while at UCLA.

I am concerned about the game becoming too physical as I feel the game was meant to be a game of finesse and maneuverability. The younger players copy the pros where the game is very physical and emphasizes showmanship over basic fundamentals.
Drugs and out of perspective salaries, as a result of television money, have brought forth many problems.
However, it is a beautiful sport and will survive.
Sincerely,
John Wooden UCLA (Ret.)
