Johnny Rodgers

Omaha native Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers starred for the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a deadly kick returner, running back and receiver ultimately winning two National Championships and the 1972 Heisman Trophy. Rodgers was drafted in the NFL but opted to play for better wages in the Canadian Football League. In his four seasons in Montreal Rodgers was named an All-Star three times and he led the Alouettes to the 1974 Grey Cup. Starting in 2011, the Jet Award was given to the best return specialist in college football. In this letter, Rodgers noted “the profound impact of sports on our lives.”
