Lou Holtz

Lou Holtz grew up in Ohio and began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Iowa, securing his first head coaching position at William & Mary in 1969 where he succeeded Marv Levy. Holtz made history as the first coach to lead six different schools to bowl games. His greatest achievement was revitalizing the Notre Dame program, where he won 100 games over 11 seasons including the 1988 National Championship. In his “Philosophy of Life” letter, Holtz outlined his simple but powerful outlook: “Do Right. Do Your Best. Show people you care.”

Jack Krasula:

My philosophy consists of three rules:

  1. Do Right

  2. Do Your Best

  3. Show people you care

Because everyone you meet asks three questions

  1. Can I Trust You?

  2. Are you committed to Excellence?

  3. Do you care about me and the organization?

By following these three rules, they will always be able:

  1. To Trust You!

  2. Know you are committed to excellence

  3. Know that you care about them and the organization

Simple Philosophy of Life but an effective one,

Lou Holtz
