Mario Andretti

Mario Andretti, named “Driver of the Century” by the Associated Press in 2000, won four IndyCar series titles over a 20-year span plus the Formula One Drivers’ Championship in 1978. While normally associated with open-wheel racing, Andretti won other races like stock car racing’s Daytona 500, endurance racing’s 12 Hours of Sebring and the Pikes Peak mountain climb. Only Andretti has won the Daytona 500, the F1 Championship and the Indianapolis 500 where he is pictured with team owner Andy Granatelli after winning Indy in 1969. In his Philosophy of Life letter, Andretti cited his parents, “You’d better be able to pick yourself up and brush yourself off every day.”
