Mario Lemieux

Perhaps the most talented hockey player in history, Mario Lemieux combined skill and grace with toughness and grit in a career that saw him fight debilitating injuries and a cancer diagnosis to win six scoring titles and three Hart Trophies as NHL MVP. Lemieux twice saved the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, first as a young phenom drafted No. 1 overall in 1984 who transformed the team from perpetual doormat to two-time Stanley Cup champion, then by purchasing the team out of bankruptcy in 1999 to prevent its move out of the city leading to three more Cups under his ownership.
